How Magic Quill works: a parent's guide
You answer a few short questions, the app writes and illustrates a story, and a narrator reads it aloud. Everything is started by an adult — a child never has to type prompts or make purchases.

1. Four questions
The wizard asks about the hero, the place, the goal of the story and the theme. You also pick a genre — a fairy tale, a detective story, an adventure, a calming story for bedtime, an educational tale or an edifying one — and the age the story is written for.
Short, concrete answers work best. "A brave girl named Mia who is afraid of the dark" gives the model far more to work with than "a story about courage".
2. Text and illustration
The plot is written by Google Gemini. When the text is ready, the app creates a landscape illustration in a sketchbook watercolour style — one image per story, in a 3:2 format that fits a tablet or a phone screen.
You can review the result before reading it to your child.
3. Voice narration
Narration is produced by ElevenLabs. Playback can be slowed down or sped up, and it keeps running with the screen off, so the phone can lie on the nightstand while the story plays. Details are on the voice narration page.
4. What a story costs
Inside the app, generation is paid with Quills — a technical unit, not money:
- 1 Quill — the story text;
- 25 Quills — an illustration;
- 50 Quills — voice narration.
Quills can be earned for free by watching a short rewarded video, or bought in packs in the shop. There is no mandatory paywall before the first story.
5. Libraries and the subscription
Your own shelf — everything you created — is always readable. The Community Library (stories from other families) and the curated Quill's Choice collection are part of the Pro subscription. A new account gets a set of free readings in the public libraries before the subscription is required.
6. Privacy and safety
The product is built for parents: the account belongs to an adult, purchases are adult-driven, and the data policy follows COPPA and GDPR principles. Text sent to the AI providers is anonymised; personal data is deleted after an account deletion request. The full text is in the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Is Magic Quill free?
The app is free to download, and stories can be generated with Quills earned by watching short rewarded videos. Extra Quills and the Pro subscription are optional.
Does my child use the app alone?
No. The wizard, generation and purchases are handled by an adult; the child listens and reads together with the parent.
In which languages can stories be created?
English, Danish, German, Spanish, Finnish, French, Italian, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese, Swedish and Turkish.
What happens to my data if I delete the account?
Personal data is removed after a 72-hour waiting period. Generated stories stay in the library under the author name as a static label, with no link to the account.
