Why a narrator instead of the parent's voice
For a child who is learning to read, hearing the same text in a steady, expressive voice helps connect written words with pronunciation. For a parent, it means the story does not have to be read after a long day — and a story that runs fifteen minutes can be listened to instead of performed.
How the voice is made
Narration is generated by ElevenLabs from the finished story text. The result is a natural-sounding reading rather than a robotic synthesis: pauses follow the sentences, and the tone stays even instead of jumping between characters.
Playback controls
- Speed — slow it down for a younger child, speed it up for a longer story.
- Background playback — the story continues with the screen off and is controlled from the media notification or the lock screen.
- Text on screen — the story stays visible while it plays, so a child can follow the lines.
Languages
Narration is available for stories created in English, Danish, German, Spanish, Finnish, French, Italian, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese, Swedish and Turkish.
Cost
Voice narration costs 50 Quills per story — it is the most expensive part of generation, because it is produced by a separate speech model. Quills are earned by watching a short rewarded video or bought in packs; the story text itself costs 1 Quill and an illustration 25.
Privacy
Only the story text is sent to the speech provider, and the request is anonymised: no account identifiers, no e-mail, no profile data. The provider uses the text to produce the audio and does not train its models on it. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
